The story of Ray & Mel

e met at the University of Illinois in the fall of 1997. We both lived in Allen Hall (campus dorm); Mel was a freshman and Ray was in his senior year. The infamous Allen Hall Commons was where Ray introduced himself, first asked Mel out, and where Ray waited while
Mel accidentally stood him up the night that should have been their first date. Fortunately, Ray gave her a second chance and an awesome first date at the Cinema coffee house in Urbana.

After dating for more than five years, Mel finally popped the question on January 8, 2003. We were on a five day Caribbean cruise and having the time of our lives. On the third day, we spent the morning and afternoon on a small island, snorkling, swimming, and laying in the sun. That night we found a small table by a window in the corner of a small bar. We ordered champagne and watched the sunset. Out of the blue, Ray asked Mel if she expected him to propose, appoligising for not having planned to do so. Already nervous, Mel forget all the words she'd spent weeks preparing, and instead pulled out the ring she'd been carrying and asked Ray if that meant he would say yes.
