Hi there! My name is Melissa White, or Mel to some. Sometimes this world just seems so large. I'm living in Seattle now, where I've wanted to be for most of my life, and I love it here. I've never lived anywhere so beautiful and friendly and full of things to do. But sometimes it just seems so far from everything. I have lived in about nine different towns (Champaign and Urbana only count as one), gone to at least ten different schools, and moved more times that just about anyone I know, and in each place I've been, I feel like I've left a piece of myself behind. I am always eager to make new friends, but it seems with each step of the way, I lose track of old friends, too. These are people who are a part of me, and when I lose them, I lose that piece. But how can it be avoided? Even if I were to stay in one place for the rest of my life, everyone else leaves eventually. This is the world we live in. People follow their careers or their loved ones or their dreams, and the next thing you know, there are two mountain ranges and a 1000 miles of prairie between you and your best friend. Letters, phone calls, email, and frequent flyer miles bridge the gap, but can never close it. They say the world is getting smaller, but the gaps between people just grows wider. If you miss me, drop me a line, because chances are pretty good that I miss you. |
